Wolf in the Woods is a cozy & romantic hidden gem located inside a beautiful neighborhood in Mission Hills. The team were friendly and welcoming to us first and second timers. This is not a snobby or judgmental tourist trap. You know it’s good when you see locals that are frequent visitors here. Moreover, all the food we tried here were very delicious and carefully plated to look like art. My only tip is that the pork shoulder needed some chili peppers to balance out the saltiness. We also appreciate the attention to detail involved in the romantic interior/exterior design to go along with the restaurant’s Mexican/European/Native American cuisine & aesthetics. The cuisine and atmosphere experience took me back to living in Spain for a moment. Tip: If you don’t like sitting too close to strangers than the patio seating would be much better. My recommendations: -The famous Corn soup -Yellowtail Ceviche -focaccia bread -along with hen mushroom polenta -beef tataki -pork shoulder with fried bread if you have room -mini burger -don’t forget the kakaw chocolate pot mmm -both mocktails on the menu were refreshing
Incredible quaint and romantic spot with excellent food and service. The sweet corn and piñon soup was unlike anything I’ve had before. Unreal. The depth of flavor in the red hatch chile sauce from the Carne Adovada is 🤌🏼. Spent every piece of that fry bed mopping up every last drop of the sauce. Had the citrus marinated octopus. Love the flavor. I thought the texture of the octopus was off. I was expecting firm and springy yet tender but it was firm and mealy :( Still an excellent place
The experience was just the tip of the iceberg. From the moment we arrived, every detail reflected the warmth and hospitality that New Mexico is known for. Chef Carmine and her team have crafted a menu that takes you on a flavorful journey, blending bold Southwest influences with refined culinary artistry. Every dish was clean, vibrant, and beautifully balanced—never overwhelming the palate, yet packed with unforgettable flavor. Each bite showcased fresh ingredients and thoughtful preparation, making it clear that every plate is created with passion and purpose. Nothing we tasted fell short of exceptional. Every course exceeded expectations and left us wanting more. If you haven’t experienced Wolf in the Woods, you’re doing yourself a disservice. This is more than a meal—it’s a true New Mexico dining experience that deserves to be enjoyed.
Decent dinner atmostphere (music was a little bit loud inside, the patio was calmer). Service was timely and staff was nice, quick, responsive, and professional. The price and portion were reasonable. Food-wise, the tapas (agua chile and tartare) were top-notch and perfect start to the evening; the corn soup looked beautiful, balanced; the entrees (pork shoulder and mushroom polenta), were honestly underwhelming, on a slightly saltier side, lacked the wow factor, and held back the entire experience.
This is a must try for anyone in San Diego! The food was incredible! The service was outstanding! We ordered a bottle of champagne and 6 dishes (mostly tapas). Every dish but one was phenomenal! Highly highly recommend!
